Is Jaguar still involved in racing?

With Jaguar mainly focusing on SUVS lately, we can ask ourselves if the British Manufacturer still is interested in racing. Luckily, the answer is yes and there, and Jaguar is even one of the first manufacturers to join Formula E.

Even if Jaguar offers several SUVS to the public, that doesn't mean the British Manufacturer can't compete in any form of car racing. Jaguar has a strong history in car racing, and the brand gave us some of the best sports cars in the world. The Type D and the E-type are two legends, and the F-Type has been proclaimed the most beautiful car in the world at some point. Jaguar gave us the XJ220, one of the fastest cars in the 1990s, with a top speed of over 341 km/h.

Jaguar TCS – Formula E

Jaguar is intensely interested in electrification, and the British Manufacturer showed it early on by joining Formula E in 2016, with Jaguar TCS as its official team name. Jaguar was in Formula 1 from 2000 to 2004 before the team was finally purchased by Red Bull Racing.

It was in December 2016 that Jaguar announced its comeback into a highly competitive racing series with Formula E. If Jaguar didn't have much success in Formula 1, it is a different story in Formula E. The team finished in 10th place in its first season but finished 6th in its second season. Jaguar almost won the team championship in the 2020 -2021 season by finishing 2nd. Season 2021 – 2022 was a little more challenging, with 4th place, which is still pretty good.

GT2, GT3 and GT4

Until recently, Jaguar was involved in several sports car racing series. The British Manufacturer tried GT2 racing in 2009, finishing in 9th place. Jaguar had a little more success in the GT3 series, racing until 2017. From 2018 to 2019, Jaguar competed in the GT4 series before auctioning the cars in 2020.

I-Pace Trophy

The I-Pace is the ultimate proof that Jaguar is far more interested in EVS than ICE cars nowadays. The I-Pace isn't just this odd-looking and pricy vehicle you can buy for yourself. Jaguar brought the model to a racing series called Jaguar I Pace eTrophy. However, the British manufacturers were forced to cancel the series in 2020 when COVID-19 hit. This is sad because this racing series was interesting. The series offered a different experience with an 'Arrive and Drive' format, including several celebrity guests.

An Electrified Future

For now, Formula E is the only official series Jaguar is involved in as of right now. However, this is more than enough and shows where the British Manufacturer is heading. The improvement of the Formula E team is translating into developing new EV technologies for the customer side.
